The Ramón Areces Foundation will be part of the board of advice of patronage of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, as patron, after the signature of the collaboration agreement that has taken place today among the directors of the two foundations, Raimundo Pérez-Hernández and Jordi Camí, respectively.

The agreement between both institutions, presided by Isidoro Álvarez and Pasqual Maragall, includes the contribution of a hundred thousand euros from the Ramón Areces Foundation to the Alzheimer’s International Fund to collaborate with the promotion and support to the research and development of the prevention and cure of the those diseases.

The goal of the Alzheimer’s International Fund managed by the Pasqual Maragall private Foundation is to accelerate the advance of scientific discoveries in the field of Alzheimer’s and other related neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and others) and procure critical contributions for preventing, curing and treating them, overcoming the current stagnation in which present research into this field finds itself.

To this end, there is a proposal to create an international scientific research centre of excellence in Spain specifically dedicated to Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases that will bring together the more brilliant young researchers from all over the world.

The Ramón Areces Foundation has been working during thirty years with the goal to consolidate a solid research structure in Spain. In order to achieve it, the Foundation promotes and finances projects of scientific, cultural, social and economical research, contributing to multiply the scientific production of quality in Spain and to generate new opportunities for the young researchers.
